An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 12:30pm -2:45pm. Upon arrival there were 52 children in care with 14 staff members present. A sample of 5 children and 3 staff records were reviewed. The center did not have any children with diagnosed food allergies. Children were observed during nap. Infants were observed sleeping in cribs and playing on the floor. A diaper change was also reviewed.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure all areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: 1. In the two year-old room and the toddler room there was peeling paint on the base of the walls, in reach of the children. 2. On the playground the metal fencing surrounding the play equipment had areas of rust. When the inspector touched the rusted areas, an orange substance rubbed off on her fingers. 3. On the playground the wooden platform with the shade had 2 loose boards. When the inspector walked on the 2 boards they concaved below the other boards. Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the director during the exit interview: The director will place a maintenance order to have the rust and loose boards fixed. Painting will be completed by June 29th.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure all requirements were met when diapering. Evidence: A staff member was observed changing an infant's diaper. The staff member did not dispose of the soiled diaper in a foot operated step can. The staff member changed the diaper and left the soiled diaper on the changing table. After the infant was changed the staff member took a plastic trash bag and placed the soiled diaper in the bag. Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the director during the exit interview: Staff member will be retrained on proper diaper changing and the director will monitor for future compliance.
