Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted with center director and center staff. There were 98 children present, ranging in age from 5 months to five years old, with 18 staff actively supervising. The children were engaging in age appropriate activities including art, manipulatives, and home living. Children ate lunches prepared from home and prepared for rest. Ten emergency medications for ten children were reviewed - please see Supplemental Summary. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A
Description: Based on observation, the facility failed to have children wash hands before and after eating meals. Evidence: the children in the threes classroom did not wash hands after eating lunch.

Plan of Correction: Center director will remind staff to have children wash hands after eating meals or snacks.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C
Description: Based on review of ten medications, the facility failed to follow procedures for preventing use of outdated medication. Evidence: the emergency medication for Child 1 and Child 6 expired 4/2018.

Plan of Correction: Center director will request medications that have not expired from the parents.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-530-A
Description: Based on review of staff training files and staff interview, the facility failed to have at least one staff member trained in first aid and CPR wherever children are in care. Evidence: the driver of the bus who picks up and drops off school age students is not certified in first aid and CPR training.

Plan of Correction: There will always be one staff person trained in first aid and CPR wherever children are in care.
