Comments:
An unannounced inspection was done in response to a self reported incident of a situation that occurred at the Center on Monday, August 13, 2018. Based on interviews with staff, it was determined that a staff person used physical punishment to discipline a child. Physical punishment is forbidden buy licensing regulations.. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-410-1
Description: Based on interviews with management and staff, it was determined that a staff person used forbidden actions to punish a three year old child. Evidence: Staff A stated that Child #1 hit her several times and in reaction, she hit him on the right side of his head. Staff A stated that she hit out reflexively in reaction to the child hitting her.

Plan of Correction: Staff A's employment was terminated the day of the incident by Center management. Management states that no staff will ever use physical punishment.In addition, staff will be retrained in effective behavior management. The center administrative staff will institute a consistent documentation system for behavior issues and consistent responses to behaviors.
