An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 9:30am-1:45pm. There were 182 children (infants-5yrs.) directly supervised by 43 staff. The physical plant, 10 staff records, 10 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in group play, reading books, playing outside, doing crafts, being bottle fed, napping, playing with legos and manipulatives, and eating snack. Today's snack consisted of Goldfish and peaches. Hand-washing procedures were also observed. There was an abundant supply of materials for the children. There was an adequate number of staff with current certification in MAT, CPR and First Aid, as well as DHO training. Staff-to-child ratios were in compliance. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the Violation Notice. If you have any questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Maria Soto at email@example.com or (571) 835-5058.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A Description: Based on review of staff records, the center did not obtain written documentation that two or more references as to character and reputation as well as competency were checked before employment.
The record of Staff#1 is missing 1 of 2 required references prior to employment. The staff member was hired on 02/06/2017.
Plan of Correction: We will go back and evaluate all records to ensure we have two references, and in the case of high school students if work references don't exist we will ask for character references from other adults.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, areas of the center were not maintained in a safe and operable condition.
In room#12, a sink that children use to wash their hands, was observed missing a piece of laminate from the edge of the countertop exposing the pressed wood interior. In room#11, a sink that children use to wash their hands, has laminate that has become unattached on the left side at the edge of the countertop creating a potential pinch point.
Plan of Correction: We will have maintenance repair or replace the warped laminate surfaces.
