22VAC40-185 STAFFING AND SUPERVISION.
Thank you for your time and assistance with the unannounced complaint inspection which was conducted on August 15, 2018. At the time of arrival there were 29 children in the care of 5 staff members. The inspection was in response to a complaint that was received in the Valley Licensing Office on August 9, 2018. The complaint was regarding staffing and supervision and ratios being maintained in the classrooms. Five staff members were interviewed, and three transition forms were reviewed. The information gathered during the investigation does support the allegation, so the complaint is determined to be " valid." There was a repeat violation resulting from this complaint investigation and is identified on the violation notice. If you have any questions, contact your licensing inspector at (540) 430-9257.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-C Complaint related: No Description: Based on observation, the center failed to maintain staff-to children ratio applicable to the youngest child in the group. Evidence: 1. On 8/15/18 at 7:40 a.m. it was observed in the Pre-Kindergarten Classroom that there were 13 children present with one staff member, with the youngest child being 2 years and 10 months. 2. Staff verified that she was the only staff member in the classroom, that the other teacher was out on a van run with the school age children. She stated the other staff member leaves around 7:30 a.m. for the van run. The LI observed the teacher return to the classroom at 7:52 a.m., the staff member gathered her group of children and took them to her classroom. 3. Staff verified that the youngest child in the group was 2 years and 10 months. Plan of Correction: The administrator will look at the schedule and move staff to be in earlier to cover so that when the school age children leave on the van there is sufficient staff available to cover in the classrooms. The administrator will also look to see who she can put in charge between the time the vans leave and return to be available to check on ratios in the classrooms.
