An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 10:15 am - 1:30 pm. There were 52 children present, and all rooms were within ratio. I observed children busy listening to stories, sitting in circle time, playing with table toys and manipulative toys, engaged in role-play and discussing the fish sticks being prepared for lunch. The playground was not inspected today due to inclement weather. If you have any questions, please contact me at brenda.kuhlman@dss.virginia.gov

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-140-A Description: Based on a review of children's files today, one child did not have physical exam present. Evidence: Child # 1who began care in July, did not have a physical exam present today. Plan of Correction: I will contact the parent today.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, there were some areas and equipment in the center that were not maintained in a clean, safe and/or operable condition. Evidence: There were large wall vents observed in two classrooms that had a heavy build up of grime and dust; and large areas of peeling paint in one classroom. The cabinet door was missing from the diaper table at child height. There was a broken light switch which was cracked, with metal showing through. (Vents and peeling paint were previously cited on 4/18) Plan of Correction: The vents will be replaced. The pre-K classroom will be painted Monday. The changing table will be replaced. The light switch will be covered with tape until repaired.

Evidence: Twice during today's inspection, the laundry room was observed to be unlocked with no staff present, and two cartons of laundry detergent in individual packets were accessible on the floor. Evidence: Although some of the older medications were in "safety sacks", three others were in baggies or loose in an open storage container on top of the file cabinet in the copy room where children were sitting at the door, waiting for a staff member who was making copies. Plan of Correction: We will return or dispose of it, but any that's waiting to go home will be put into a locked file box.
