Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was done today 9/27/2018. The inspector arrived at 8:30 AM and departed the program at am There were 21 children in care today with five staff supervising the children. The children gathered in the big room in the morning and then went to their individual classroom. The majority of children leave at 1:00 PM but some stayed for the afternoon program which ends at 6:00 PM. Six staff's records and five children's records were reviewed during the inspection.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all chemicals were locked. Evidence: 1. Observed in the three year old room, there was a container of cleaning wipes sitting on the cabinet that was accessible to the children in care. 2. Observed in the girls bathroom, two containers of cleaning wipes sitting on top of the storage cabinet that was not accessible to the children in care.

Plan of Correction: The director locked all chemicals during the inspection and will ensure that they stay locked.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-340-F
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all children were within sight and sound supervision of a staff person at all times. Evidence: 1. Observed child # 6 walking from one classroom approximately 21 feet to the classroom down the hall to where the teacher was located. Child # 6 was out of sight and sound supervision while the child walked from the classroom (no teacher) to the classroom where the teacher was located. The teacher talked to the other classroom to get supplies.

Plan of Correction: The director has spoken to the staff person and an assistant was added to the classroom.

Standard #: 63.2-1720.1-A
Description: Based on review of six staff's records, the center failed to ensure that all finger print eligibility letters were returned prior to hire date. Evidence: 1. Staff # 3 has a documented hire date of 8/14/2018 and the finger print eligibility letters is dated 8/22/2018.

Plan of Correction: In the future all staff will not be hired prior to the finger print eligibility letters being returned.
