Today an unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted between the hours of 3:00pm and 5:30pm. I observed 42 children directly supervised by 3 staff. Ratios and supervision were in compliance. Children were observed participating in a fire drill, doing homework, reading books, playing with small manipulative toys, and participating in group play in the gym. Staff were actively engaged with the children and assisting them with tasks as needed. The physical plant, 5 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. The cafeteria was found to be clean, safeguarded appropriately, and adequately supplied with equipment and supplies. Required staff training documents were on-site. Emergency preparedness supplies in order. Required documents posted. Questions about this inspection may be directed to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: Two spray bottles of multipurpose surface cleaner were observed on top of a shelf inside the program's storage room right next to the entrance door. Plan of Correction: Corrected during the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-A Description: Based on review of the center's emergency preparedness plan and interview with staff, the center did not ensure that the emergency preparedness plan contained all required information. Evidence: During the inspection the center's preparedness plan was missing the following: The names of the staff members assigned to each emergency role, the evacuation assembly area, primary and secondary means of egress and assembly point, location of evacuation site away from the center, designated shelter-in-place assembly points and primary and secondary means of access and egress. The plan needs to be site specific. Plan of Correction: We will update the emergency preparedness plan to include all required information.
