Comments:
An unannounced complaint inspection was made on 9/26/18 in response to a complaint received on 8/30/18 and 9/5/18 concerning supervision during nap time. The inspector arrived to the center on 9/26/18 at 1:50 pm and observed two classrooms of children to be alone and unsupervised during the designated rest/sleep period. The complaint is determined to be valid based on these observations. The violation related to this complaint can be viewed on the Violation Notice section of this inspection. This inspection was completed on 10/1/18 and sent via email to the licensee on that date.

Description: Based on observation and interviews, the center failed to ensure that during the designated rest period that there was a staff member in sight and sound of the resting/sleeping children. Evidence: 1. At arrival of the inspector, two classrooms of children were observed with children resting/sleeping and no staff was within sight or sound of the resting/sleeping children. 2. The two year old classroom was observed to have 15 children who were resting/sleeping alone and unsupervised with no staff person within sight and sound of the children. The door to this classroom was closed at arrival of the inspector with the children in the classroom. According to the staff assigned to the classroom, the staff member was observed in the office of the center working on a computer had left only a "few minutes ago." This staff person stated that she was aware of the second staff person being gone to get the laundry. The second staff person was observed to come from the downstairs laundry room with linens to fold after arrival of the inspector, within a couple minutes. 3. The three/four year old classroom was observed to have 11 children who were resting/sleeping alone and unsupervised with no staff person within sight and sound of the children. The door to the classroom was open at arrival of the inspector with the children in the classroom. The staff person assigned to this classroom was observed in the office sitting in a chair beside the office staff person. According to this staff person, she had only left a few minutes prior to arrival of the inspector.

Plan of Correction: The staff returned to the classrooms during the inspection.
