Standard #: 22VAC40-185-400-B Description: Based on interview, one staff member did not promote a child's emotional and social well-being. Evidence: On 9/28/2018 Staff #1 observed Staff #2 aggressively picking up Child #1 from the carpet area by both arms and placing them on the couch of the TK-B classroom. Staff #2 stated that Child #1 was asked to sit on the carpet with the rest of the class while they cleaned up from a sensory project but Child #1 was trying to take a book away from another classmate so they approached Child #1 and picked them up by both arms and sat him down on the couch. Staff #2 stated that they were "100% in control of [their] emotions but I was very firm and very strict because I needed [them] to stop." Staff #1 stated that when they told Staff #2 that they should not handle a child that way, Staff #1's response was "I don't care." Staff #2 confirmed that Staff #1 witnessed the incident and said "I don't care." when Staff #1 expressed concern. Plan of Correction: Staff #2 was placed on administrative leave for one week. All of our staff has completed a Child Abuse and Neglect training and our District Manager had a conversation with all staff involved regarding alternative actions that can be taken when a teacher is feeling stressed.
