Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 11:00am -1:00pm. Upon arrival there were 135 children in care with 25 staff present. A sample of 7children and 5 staff records, in addition to 3 medications. The center had a Halloween party in the morning. Children were observed on the playground, during lunch and in centers.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D
Description: Based on a record review the center did not ensure monthly practice drills were implemented. Evidence: The center did not implement a fire drill during the month of August.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the program director: The center was open for 2 weeks during the month of August and it was an administrative oversight.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-M
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure staff sit with children during meals. Evidence: In the middle preschool room and 5 year-old room staff did not sit with the children during lunch. Staff were observed standing next to the tables.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the program director: Staff had been instructed to stand to oversee the children to help them open lunches and monitor they are eating safely. Moving forward the director will instruct staff to sit with the children during meals.
