Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included record keeping and outdoor areas.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection took place this morning from 10:40 - 12:20pm. There were two classes present today with 18 children and five adults. I observed children busy with moon-themed activities: painting a moon/outer space picture; listening to the story "Papa, Please Bring Me the Moon;" and talking about space, I also saw children "clapping on syllables", involved in dramatic play; eating snack and going outdoors. The science center offers a remarkable variety of interesting local items to explore; and the outdoor area now features an "ceramics shop" for using molds with different materials. If you have any questions, please let me know at brenda.kuhlman@dss.virginia.gov

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, a piece of equipment was observed to not be maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: There was splintering on the top of the wooden boat in the playground.

Plan of Correction: We have a maintenance day coming up on Sunday, until then, we will make it inaccessible.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-M
Description: Based on a review today of reports of children's minor injuries, there was some information not documented that is required. Evidence: Several of the forms used this school year did not have the requirement of the documented statement: "Future action to prevent future occurrence."

Plan of Correction: We will begin using the previous format.
