The licensing inspectors conducted and unannounced renewal inspection form 10:30am - 1:45 pm. There were fourteen preschool children in care with three staff. The children were observed at circle time, working on a crafts and during lunch. The children were also observed practicing a fire drill. Four staff's records and five children's records were reviewed. Three buses were inspected. Violations are identified on the violation notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, the center failed to maintain the playground in a safe condition. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed multiple areas of black landscaping plastic showing presenting a tripping hazard. Plan of Correction: Staff will tell the director about black plastic being exposed.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-F Description: Based on interview and observation, the center failed to have an in-service non pay phone. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed staff needing to call a parent and staff stated the phone in the room did not work; staff went to the office on the first floor to make the call. Plan of Correction: Staff will let the director know the phone is not working and the director will contact the person to get it fixed.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-B Description: Based on measurement and observation, the enter failed to maintain the required resilient surfacing around the playground equipment. The center also failed to maintain the required fall zone space between playground equipment. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed black plastic showing at the end of the slide. The inspector also observed and measured the fall zone space between two pieces of playground equipment. There was 4 1/2 feet of fall zone space and the required amount is 6 feet. Plan of Correction: The director will move the equipment to have the correct fall zones, and will make sure mulch is the correct depth.
