Current Inspector: Julia Kimbrough (276) 608-4267

Inspection Date: Dec. 5, 2018

Complaint Related: Yes

Areas Reviewed:

The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced complaint inspection in response to a complaint that was received by the licensing office on 11/30/2018. Interviews were conducted with staff, and a review of the classrooms and facility were conducted, relating to allegations of unlocked medications, and ratios. The evidence gathered during the investigation supports allegations related to medications, so the complaint is determined to be valid. Please contact me if you need further assistance. Thank you.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J
Complaint related: Yes
Description: Based on observations and discussions with staff the facility failed to maintain compliance with this standard related to storage of medications. Evidence: At the time of arrival of the inspector for a complaint related inspection, at 8:40am, there were 2 unlocked emergency medications in the closet in the office. The closet doors were open and the epi-pen was sitting on top of the red tool box, and the albuterol liquid was sitting in the opened black box. Both medications were within reach of any children, or adults as the office door was open with no staff around the office to ensure that no one had unnecessary access to them.

Plan of Correction: Staff will be reminded that storage of medications in a locked area is required at all times. Administrative personnel will daily assess medication and storage practices to ensure continued compliance.

A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.

The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.
