An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 9:00am -11:15am. Upon arrival there were 65 children in care with 13 staff present. A sample of 2 staff and 6 children's records were reviewed in addition to 1 medication and 1 over-the-counter skin product. Children were observed playing in centers, participating in art and circle time. Kindergarten children were observed eating lunch before being picked-up by the school bus. Infants were observed playing in the floor with staff and during a diaper change.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-260-A Description: Based on a record review the center did not ensure an annual fire inspection was provided. Evidence: The last fire inspection at the center was dated 12/07/17. Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the program director: A fire inspector was out in October however did not leave any paperwork. During the inspection the director called the fire marshal to schedule an inspection as soon as possible.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure all requirements were met when diapering. Evidence: In the infant room a staff member was observed during a diaper change. After the staff removed the child's soiled diaper, it was placed on the diaper changing table and not discarded immediately in the foot operated pail. It was discarded after the diaper change was complete. Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the program director: The staff was corrected during the inspection and the director will follow-up in diapering procedures.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-C Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure all required items were kept in the center's first aid kits. Evidence: One of the 3 van's first aid kits was inspected. It did not have a first aid instruction manual, tweezers, thermometer or antiseptic. Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the program director: The director will order all of missing items and have them on the buses before the 2pm bus run today.
