The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection on 01/15/2019 from 9:48am to 12:40pm. The children were observed participating in circle time, playing with puppets, coloring, listening to story time, and napping. A formal observation was completed with the Ladybugs and Caterpillars classrooms. The menu was posted. Interviews were held with staff throughout the inspection, and the inspector interacted with children in each classroom when appropriate. All classrooms and playgrounds were inspected today. Five children?s records and five employee records were reviewed during this inspection. Medication is not being administered. Eight injury reports were reviewed as well as the center?s injury prevention plan, which was updated 10/2018. The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected. Last emergency drill: 05/23/2018 Last shelter-in-place drill: 02/05/2018 Last fire inspection: 05/23/2018 Last health inspection: 08/06/2018 Today, the following child to staff ratios were observed: Ladybugs (16 months - 30 months) - 6:2 Caterpillars (Twos and Threes) - 14:2 Butterflies (Threes, Fours, Fives) ? 14:2 The violations from the previous inspections were checked for corrections. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure that hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
The center's pantry area contained a closet with several cleaning materials. The pantry closet and cleaning closet doors were unlocked and open.Plan of Correction: There will be a lock put on the cleaning closet door by the weekend. Until the lock is installed the pantry door adjacent to the cleaning closet will be locked.
