An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today. There were 50 children in care ages four months through four years old with nine teaching staff and three administrators. Children and staff records were reviewed. A walking of the center inside was completed. Required postings, annual inspections, emergency evacuation drills first aid kit and medication were reviewed. Children were observed in teacher and self-directed activities. Violations were identified in the area of special care provisions and emergencies and appears on the violation notice.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that staff follow required hand washing procedures. Evidence: 1 - Staff 2 did not wash her hands after changing the diaper of a child in care and before touching other items and children around the room. Staff 2 was observed touching the sink faucets and three other children, including lift one child off the floor and placing him on the changing, without washing her hands. 2 - Staff 2 confirmed that she did not wash her hands after changing the diaper of a child in care before touching the sink faucet and other children. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that diaper changing is cleaned and sanitized between each diaper change. Evidence: 1 - Staff 2 change a child in care and sprayed the surface with a blue solution and immediately wiped the table dry. This was a one step process where a two step process of cleaning then sanitizing is required. 2 - Staff 2 confirmed that she did not follow a two step process after changing the child's diaper.
