Please vary the time of day you do your monthly escape drills to include morning drills.
An unannounced focused inspection was conducted today with the director, who was present with 44 children and five staff providing supervision. The Licensing Inspector was able to observe children disembarking from the public school bus and enter the club, the children then placed their backpacks in the designated space and went upstairs to the craft room where they washed their hands and were given snack, which consisted of juice, applesauce, cheese stick, wheat crackers and chili lime dip. Another group of children were in the Theater room for homework time. The center had no medication on site. Seven children and six staff files were reviewed and determined to be in compliance. The center is up to date with escape and shelter in place drills. Arrival time: 4pm Departure time: 5: 50 pm
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-E-6 Description: Based on observation, it was determined that the center did not maintain the 1:20 ratio for schoolagers nine through 12 years of age. Evidence: The Licensing Inspector observed 23 children with one staff for approximately 2 minutes in the theater classroom, then a 24 child entered the theater room, again leaving one staff with 24 children for approximately 1 minute until the second staff returned to the classroom. All of the children in this classroom were 10 years of age and older. Plan of Correction: I will retrain staff and plan to have the club to follow the Licensing ratios for all children weather they are enrolled in the day care or not.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-N Description: Based on observation, it was determined that children were allowed to drink and eat while walking around. Evidence: The Licensing Inspector observed three children walking around eating or drinking in front of three staff and at no time did any of the staff intervene or redirect the children to sit while eating and drinking. Plan of Correction: I will retrain staff.
