Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-B Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on interviews and observation, it was determined that the center has been using two portable heaters throughout the day since last week in the classrooms used by the children. The use of the heaters have not been in compliance with the manufacturer's instructions. Evidence: Interviews revealed that the two portable heaters have been used in the center since last week. The heaters have been placed on an elevated surface in the classrooms and within 3 feet of furniture such as a desk. Additionally, the heaters are being plugged into an extension cord and not directly into the wall outlet. Being within 3 feet of any object and plugged into an extension cord is contrary to the manufacturers instructions. Plan of Correction: At the end of the day today I will reset all the thermostats so it stays on overnight. Tomorrow morning if it is cold in the building I wont use the space heaters until I have gotten permission from the local Fire Marshal's office. If the heat doesn't stay on tomorrow at the right temperature then I will close the building and contact my AC guy.
