An unannounced, mandated monitoring inspection was conducted today. The inspector arrived at 11:35 AM and departed at 2:30 PM. Fifty-two children were in care. Morning activities, lunch service and nap time were observed. A sample size of six staff records, six board member records and five children's records were reviewed. Medication administration, emergency drills and preparedness and injury records were reviewed. An exit meeting was conducted with the Program Director prior to closure of the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based upon observation, the facility has not ensured that hazardous substances are kept in locked places using safe locking methods that prevent access by children. Evidence: 1. There was a container of foaming shaving cream in an unlocked cabinet above the counter in the Red Room. The container was labeled "caution, keep out of reach of children". 2. There was a container of pump hand sanitizer beside the sink in the counter in the PK3 classroom. The hand sanitizer was labeled "warning, keep out of reach of children". Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following: Both substances were moved to locked locations during the inspection. All staff will be reminded to check all containers for warning/caution labels and if the container has warnings, the container must be stored in a locked location when not being directly supervised.
