Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included storage of child's self-carried medication while in the classroom.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection took place today from 3:45 - 5:30 pm. There were 51 children present in two classrooms with five staff. I observed children busy with a variety of activities and crafts which included decorating very flamboyant hats. Children showed me the detailed dramatic play areas of the "shoppes of SACC", including an ice cream parlor, theater lobby, fashion boutique and Rose Hill Cosmetics. Record keeping was well-organized. If you have any questions, please contact me at brenda.kuhlman@dss.virginia.gov

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-G
Description: Based on a review of medications, not all licensing standards were followed. Evidence: A child who had a prescription medication at the site today did not have the original prescription on the label of the medication as required.

Plan of Correction: We will talk to the parent today, and keep a copy of the prescription in our Med. book.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J
Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, a child's medication was kept in a locked place during afterschool care. Evidence: Child # 1 who carries an emergency allergy medication and has a physician's authorization to carry it on his person, but the medication was in the child's bookbag.

Plan of Correction: I talked to the parent and she will have a fanny pack that can be worn. For today, it will be locked.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-E
Description: Based on a review of first aid supplies today, there was no operable battery-operated radio as required, and no extra batteries available.

Plan of Correction: I will get one tomorrow.
