Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from1:00pm and departed at 3:00pm to conduct a Subsidy Health and Safety Inspection. At the time of the tour there were 62 children in care with 16 staff present. Children were observed during nap. Some children were sleeping on cots while others played a quiet activity on their cots. Infants were observed having "tummy time" and a baby was sleeping in the crib. The center did not have any medications, nor did they have any children in care with food allergies.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: On the preschool/school-age playground the large composite structure had 6 rusted areas of hardware and 1 of the piece of hardware that holds parts of the equipment together was missing.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the director during the exit interview: The director texted the maintenance person in regards to the hardware and is scheduled it to be repaired.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D
Description: Based on a record review and interview with the director the center did not implement a monthly practice drill. Evidence: The center's document used to log their evacuation drills did not have a drill documented in the month of February. The director confirmed a drill was not done because the fire alarm system was not working and she could not sound the alarm.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the director during the exit interview: The director will use an alternate method to notify the building there is a fire drill. Two will be done by the end of the month.
