Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 8:25am-9:30am. At the beginning of the inspection there were 18 children directly supervised by 2 staff. The physical plant, staff training records, 5 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were being dropped off and greeted by staff, playing board games and coloring. Hand-washing procedures were also observed. There was an abundant supply of materials for the children. There was an adequate number of staff with current certification in MAT, CPR and First Aid, as well as DHO training. Staff-to-child ratios were in compliance. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. If you have any questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Kara Wright at kara.wright@dss.virginia.gov or 703-537-6241.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-240-D-4
Description: Based on record review, children for whom emergency medications have been prescribed were not always in the care of a staff member or independent contractor who meets the requirements to administer the medication. Evidence: Child 2 requires emergency medication to be present at the center. On the date of inspection there was no documentation present to support that any staff member present at the facility had received the required training necessary to administer the emergency medication.

Plan of Correction: Currently working with the county to obtain the required training.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: Cleaning chemicals were observed to be stored in cabinets under the sink in room 1 and room 2. The cabinets are outfitted with a rope style bike lock which is looped in such a way that the cabinets can be opened and the chemicals assessed with the locks in place.

Plan of Correction: The cabinets will be secured.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D
Description: Based on record review, a monthly evacuation drill was not practiced each month. Evidence: There was not record that an evacuation drill was conducted in February 2019.

Plan of Correction: A fire drill was conducted but was not recorded on the form. IN the future we will document the evacuation drills.
