Comments:
An unannounced inspection was conducted today from 11 am - 1:00 pm. There were three classes present with 29 children and six staff. I observed children "island hopping" between hula hoops to Hawaiian music with a movement teacher; obtaining water from the rain barrel faucet to create wet sand play the large sandbox; and eating snack. The science area in one room has an amazing variety of hives, bark, sponges, shells, gourds & nests to explore. In celebration of Week of the Young Child, children made butter - and got to eat it at snack. Children were so excited about its success, they developed their own spontaneous dance & song about it. If you have any questions, please contact me at brenda.kuhlman@dss.virginia

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, there were some areas outdoors that were not maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: There was a gap in a corner directly under the fence with an opening wide enough to become a foot entrapment. The orange cone had sharp edges, and a plastic shed was wobbly and had a broken area.

Plan of Correction: I will talk to the church to fix it as soon as possible. The shed is scheduled to be removed, and the orange cone will be repaired.
