Thank you for your time and assistance with the unannounced monitoring inspection conducted today, April 17, 2019. The on-site inspection was held from 10:20 a.m. to 1:25 p.m. On this date, there were 14 children present in the four-year-old morning class and in the care of two staff members, and two staff members were caring for 9 children in the afternoon three-year-old class. The total enrollment for all three classes was 41 children. The violation from the previous inspection was reviewed for compliance. The exception to compliance was noted on the violation notice and the risk rating for the violation was noted on the supplemental page. There had been no change in staff since the last inspection so those five records were checked for updates and five children's records reviewed. Three staff members and four children were interviewed. The two classrooms used for care were toured and observations were made in both the morning and afternoon classes. The medication and medication paperwork were reviewed for three children. All snacks were provided by the parents. The playground was observed and the resilient surfacing was measured. The theme for the week was Easter and the children enjoyed doing egg related activities and projects. Some of the items reviewed and observed included: music and movement activities, hand washing and bathroom procedures, snack, outdoor play, transitions, dismissal procedures, arrival procedures, choice time, opening meeting, story time, choice time, art activities, required posted information, warm water temperature, and documentation of evacuation and shelter-in-place drills. Please contact your licensing inspector, Diann Reed, if you have questions concerning this inspection, the licensing standards, and/or if I may be of assistance to you (540) 280-0742.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-A Description: Based on review of medications for three children and verification from staff, there was an over-the-counter nonprescription medicine on-site that had expired. Evidence: 1. One of the emergency medications for Child A was a nonprescription drug that had an expiration date of February 2019. 2. Staff Member #3 confirmed that the medication has expired. Plan of Correction: The staff gave the medication to the parent of the child at pick-up time and the parent stated she would bring in a new bottle of the medication at drop-off the next day the child comes to preschool.
