A complaint inspection was conducted from 1:00pm to 3:30pm in response to a complaint that was received by the licensing office 3/28/2019. After interviewing staff and reviewing all available facts, it was determined that the complaint allegation was not valid. Non complaint related violations were cited on the Violation Notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-40-E Complaint related: No Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that the center's activities, services and facilities are maintained in compliance with the standards, the center's own policies and procedures that are required by these standards and terms of the current license issued by the department. Evidence: The classroom video, shows the child being dragged by his arm and being placed in a chair, Staff #1 did not attempt to talk to the child as a method of age appropriate and positive redirection. This is not in accordance with the center's policy of Positive Behavior Guidance. Plan of Correction: All staff present have had Positive Behavior Guidance reviewed. All staff will be retrained regarding Positive Behavior at next staff meeting.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-400-A Complaint related: No Description: Based on interviews with staff and review of the video recording from the classroom, a staff member failed to provide behavioral guidance that is constructive in nature, age and stage appropriate and intended to redirect children to appropriate behavior and resolve conflicts. Evidence: Staff #1 was conducting morning circle, when child #1 threw a stuffed animal at her and nearly hit her in the face. Staff #1 got up and grabbed child#1 by the right arm and dragged him to a table approximately15 feet from the circle area, she sat him down in a chair and gave him a book. She then returned to the circle area and resumed morning circle time. Plan of Correction: Staff #1 was terminated due to her actions. Completed.
