Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted from 9:15am-1:00pm. At the time of entrance, 95 children were in care with 23 staff members present. The infants were observed sleeping, playing with toys, singing songs, playing with bubbles, during diaper changes and washing hands. Children were observed playing with toys, during snack time, washing hands, bathroom breaks, circle time, engaged in group activities, listening to the teacher read a book, making a mother's day gift with paint and outdoor play time. Interactions between the children and staff were positive. The site was clean, organized and contained an abundant supply of developmentally appropriate materials. A selection of staff and children records, the physical space, evacuation drills, attendance records, injury reports and medications were reviewed. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the violation notice. Please contact me if you have any questions at Stacy.Doyle@dss.virginia.gov or 571- 835-0386.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation, areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, were not maintained in a safe and operable condition. Evidence: 1. In the Infant 2 classroom, the padding on the window had tape across it that was peeling and shredding. 2. In the Toddler classroom, the children's play sink was not fitting into the furniture hole correctly, exposing chips in the wood. 3. In the Two's and Three's classroom, the yellow paint near two windows is chipping on the edge. 4. In the Junior Kindergarten classroom, a large blue padded seat had three areas that were taped to cover cracks in the seat. One crack was visible and not covered by tape. There is also an area in the classroom where the paint is beginning to chip on the edge of the wall near the wood blocks. 5. On the playground, the red spinning structure's paint is chipping and rough in some areas.

Plan of Correction: I will have maintenance either remove it or replace the padding. In the Toddler classroom, the play sink was removed immediately. It will be replaced or repaired. Maintenance will be contacted for the painting repairs needed. The seat was removed immediately.
