Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance was provided regarding expired medication: return it to parents within 14 days of expiration or dispose of it. A discussion was also held on what is need to qualify a teacher as a Lead. (see pages 22-24 of the standards)

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 9:30am-12:00pm. There were 36 children (infants-5yrs.) supervised by 6 direct care staff. The physical plant, staff records, children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, programs and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in practicing cutting and tracing, and watching a video. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A
Description: Based on review of staff records, 1 staff member does not have documentation of qualifications for the position. Evidence: Staff #1 does not have any documentation as to how she is qualified for a lead position.

Plan of Correction: She is currently in college for early childhood education, I will get a copy of her transcript.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J
Description: Based on review of medications, they are not being kept in a locked place using a safe locking method. Evidence: The medication box was located in the office, on top of the desk (6 feet high), that was not locked.

Plan of Correction: Corrected during inspection, and in the future, I will make sure it is locked.
