An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 11:00am -1:15pm. Upon arrival there were 33 children in care 5 staff present. A sample of 3 children and staff records were reviewed in addition to 2 medications. Children were observed during nap. Staff were observed patting children to sleep on the back and doing ratio counts.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure areas and equipment of the center were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: There was peeling paint on the walls in the front classroom and the plastic borders at the base of the walls in the 2 year-old room was peeling off. Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the Assistant Director during the exit interview: The chipped paint will be touched-up and the baseboard will be secured to the wall.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C Description: Based on a record review the center did not ensure all required procedures were included in the center's handbooks. Evidence: The center did not have a policy or procedure to prevent the the use of outdated medication. A child had an emergency inhaler with an expiration date of 01/19. Plan of Correction: Evidence: The following corrective action was provided by the assistant director during the exit interview: The center will create a procedure and policy to prevent the use of outdated medication. It will be included in the center's handbooks.
