Comments:
Thank you for your time and assistance with the unannounced monitoring inspection conducted today, May 15, 2019. The on-site inspection was held from 9:50a.m. to 1:20p.m. On this date, there were 70 children in seven classrooms and in the care of eight staff members. Three additional staff members were available to assist where needed. The total enrollment for the program was 74 children. All seven classrooms were toured and observations were made in three of those rooms. There were seven staff members' records and seven children's records reviewed. Four staff members and five children were interviewed. The medication and medication paperwork were reviewed for four children. Lunch was provided by the parents. An exit interview was conducted on this date. Some items observed and reviewed included: fist-aid and emergency supplies, required posted information, documentation of evacuation and shelter-in-place drills, sunscreen parent authorization, playground, large motor play, story time, centers and preschool activities, math and reading activities, hand washing and bathroom procedures, lunch, and dismissal procedures. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A
Description: Based on observation and verification from staff, one classroom of children did not wash their hands after eating. Evidence: 1. The children in Staff Member A's after-school class did not wash their hands after eating lunch. 2. Staff Member A confirmed that the children who did not use the bathroom after lunch did not wash their hands after eating.

Plan of Correction: The director informed all staff that children's hands must be washed with soap and water or with disposable wipes after eating a meal or snack.
