Comments:
An unannounced inspection was conducted between 11:00am and 1:00pm. Upon arrival there were 49 children in care with 17 staff present. A sample of 2 staff, 1 child and 4 over-the-counter skin products were reviewed, in addition to 1 medication. There was one child in care with a diagnosed food allergy. Children were observed being served lunch, playing in centers and on the playground. Infants were observed in cribs and bouncers.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure all areas and equipment of the center did not ensure all areas and equipment of the center were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: In the school-age room there was a bench that had peeling paint and 2 chair cushions that were torn with the inside foam exposed.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the program director during the exit interview: The program director will have a maintenance person sand and repaint the bench. The chairs will be removed today.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure all hazardous substances were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: In the infant room the cabinet at the bottom of the changing table was unlocked with the door slightly open. There were bottles of cleaning chemicals in the cabinet.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the program director during the exit interview: This was an oversight. The director will remind staff to ensure all chemicals are locked at all times.
