Discussed strategies regarding nap time quite activities ( Standard 380.A.2.b) Discussed revisions to daily schedule to enhance program.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 05/28/2019 from 11:45am - 1:15pm to review the standards listed on the Intensive plan of correction. Classroom observations were made to include a review of staff-to-child ratios and supervision. The inspector reviewed updated written polices regarding behavior guidance and forbidden actions. Documentation of monthly staff training was additionally reviewed. Records reviewed for two new staff and one child in care. Two violations were observed in the areas of diapering and hand washing. These violations are listed on the violation notice and were reviewed with the program director at the conclusion of the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that staff and children shall wash their hands with soap and running water after a diaper change. Evidence: 1. Staff 1 was observed changing the diaper of child 1 at approximately 12:15pm. After completion of the diaper change , staff 1 placed child 1 in an infant activity chair without washing the child's hands. a. Staff 1 then resumed duties in the infant classroom without washing her hands. Plan of Correction: Staff was reminded of importance of continually washing children's hands and staff hands including diaper changing times.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that the diapering surface shall be sanitized after each use. *Sanitized means that the surface is sprayed with the disinfectant solution and allowed to air dry. Evidence: 1. Staff 1 completed a diaper change at approximately 12:15pm. The diapering surface was sprayed with a disinfectant solution however, the surface was not allowed to air dry as required. a. Staff 1 immediately used a paper towel to wipe the surface of the diapering table. Plan of Correction: Staff was retrained on disinfecting surfaces and letting areas air dry.
