An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. There were 46 children in care ages eight years old with eight staff. Children and staff records were reviewed. Children were observed in teacher and self-directed activities including transitions, restroom routines, snack, hand washing, play activities and story time. Required postings, emergency evacuation drills, medications, emergency items and first aid kit were also reviewed. A single violation regarding physical plant was cited and discussed with the area manager and the program director at the conclusion of the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-D Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that fans or other cooling systems are used when the temperature inside areas occupied by children exceeds 80 degrees. Evidence: 1 - The preschool and school age area of the building the thermostat reads 82 degrees. a. Upon entering the area the space felt hot compared to the three year old room. b. At 3:30pm a staff stated that the school age and preschool area was equally hot yesterday at this time of the day. Plan of Correction: Management has been retrained as of 6/4/19 as to what the company expectations are regarding AC/HEAT emergencies. Management will place an emergency WO and partner with the DM at the time of any concerns regarding HVAC or Heat issues, effective 6/4/19, to ensure compliance.
