An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 7/12/19 from 11:20am until 2:20pm. At the time of entrance, there were 106 children in care with 15 direct care staff and 4 administrative staff present. A sample of 10 children's records and 10 staff records were reviewed. Children were observed participating in morning learning activities, playing on the playground, eating lunch and resting quietly during nap time. Restroom, hand washing, infant feeding and table sanitizing procedures were also observed. Medication, first aid and emergency supplies, the emergency preparedness plan, documentation of emergency practice drills, children's injury reports and center postings were reviewed. One violation in the area of physical plant is identified on the violation notice and was discussed with administrative staff during the exit interview.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure that hazardous substances, such as cleaning materials, shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: There was a can of Pledge multi-surface 2 in 1 cleaner and disinfectant, a can of Lysol sanitizing spray and a tub of disinfecting wipes in an unlocked cabinet above the sink in the Seals classroom. All containers were labeled "Keep out of reach of children." Plan of Correction: This was corrected immediately during the inspection and the cleaning materials were placed in a locked cabinet.
