Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was completed on 7/29/19. There were 180 children in care. Ten children?s records and ten staff records were reviewed. There were five medications observed. The inspector arrived at the center at 8:30 am and departed at 12:45 pm. The children were observed during breakfast, during gym times, during free play times in the classroom, during story time, during outside times, during lunch, and during nap.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-H
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that cosmetics, medications, or other harmful agents were not stored in areas accessible to children. Evidence: 1.There was a purse observed in the school-age classroom. Approximately 27 children ages five through seven years were observed in the classroom where a pocket book was observed on the floor in a corner and was unlocked. The director identified the purse as a staff person's pocket book and observed with the inspector that the pocket book contained a mace spray, over-the-counter allergy medication, and lotion.

Plan of Correction: The director corrected this during the inspection. The purse was removed and locked in an area at the center.
