An unannounced monitoring inspection was done today, September 23, 2019, beginning at 1:30 PM and ending at 5:00 PM. There were 27 children in care today with 8 staff providing care, supervision, and/or other professional staff. There were four medications reviewed. The outside area and all rooms that are used for care were inspected, as were five children's records and five staff records. The inspector looked at first aid and emergency supplies, drill documentation, and required health and fire inspections. The children were observed eating snack, hand-washing, and doing homework. There were discussions about training, outlet covers, and first aid kits. The violations were discussed with the staff today. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-60-A Description: Based on record review and discussion, the center failed to ensure that each center shall maintain and keep at the center a separate record for each child enrolled which shall contain all elements as required by the standards.
1. Child (3) and child (4) did not have his/her program concurrently attending.
2. The street address for emergency contact 2 for Child (3) was not complete.Plan of Correction: The staff will ensure that the missing information is completed.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J Description: Based on observation and discussion, the center failed to ensure that medication, except for those prescriptions designated otherwise by written physician's orders, including refrigerated medication and staff's personal medication, shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
1. A first aid kit with antacids and aspirin was unlocked on a top shelf in Classroom 12. There were preschool age children in the room during the inspection. The locking mechanism was located inside the cabinet by staff and staff acknowledged that the medications were unlocked.Plan of Correction: Staff will ensure medication is locked.
