Technical Assistance:
We discussed the requirements for education and training records for staff. The risk assessment for a violation was provided.

Also, we talked about use of your new procedures for documenting head counts during transitions to and from the playground.

We reviewed requirements for diapering procedures, cleaning/sanitizing diapering surfaces, sleep arrangements for infants and children older twelve months, initial TB statements, and policies for accounting for children's whereabouts at all times.

Comments:
Today's unannounced focused inspection conducted from 10:37 AM to 2:22 PM was for the purpose of determining compliance with standards cited during the previous monitoring inspection. Today, there were up to eleven children present with three staff. I viewed staffing, supervision, five records for children, three staff records, staff training, emergency drill records, posted information, and playground use. The children enjoyed inside and outside play activities and books read by staff. Infant care was provided in the room adjacent to the main day care area.

Thank you for your efforts to learn the applicable minimum standards. Let me know if you need any assistance. 540/430-9259

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A
Description: Based on a review of three records for staff, and interviews with administrative staff, there was required written information missing from the records. Evidence: There was not written information, such as copies of college transcripts or diplomas, to demonstrate that staff member 1 and 3 possessed the education required for the job positions held. Also, staff attended in-service training on August 11, 12 and 13, 2019 and there was not any documentation of the topics, trainer, and hours of training completed.

Plan of Correction: Staff member 3 immediately started obtaining college transcripts on the computer to print and have for the staff record. Administrative staff will obtain education transcripts from staff member 1 and make sure it is viewed and kept on file. Administrative staff will review staff records to make sure they all include education information for demonstrating all qualification requirements were met for the positions held with the program. Also, the topics of training, hours attended, and trainer will be documented for each staff record. The documentation of all job related training will be kept in files or the program binder.
