Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included requirement for documentation of annual updates of children's emergency contacts and storage of medication authorizations.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection took place today. There were 18 children present with 4 staff. I observed children learning about dinosaurs, singing Halloween songs, counting in different languages using playdough with dry pasta, and beginning lunch. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-140-A
Description: Based on a review of records today, documentation immunizations were present but physical exams were not for some children..
Evidence:
There was no physical exam available for Child # 2 and 4,

Plan of Correction: We will talk to parents about the requirement for physical exams tonight.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-60-A
Description: Based on a review of children's records today, some children's records were incomplete.
Evidence:
There was only one emergency contact documented for Child # 1, 2; and 5 and no address for the emergency contacts for Child # 3, 4, 6, and 8.

Plan of Correction: We have Back to School night tonight and will make sure all records are up to date.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-420-E-3
Description: Based on a review of children's records today, it was found that not all returning students had documentation of annual updates to emergency contacts as required.
Evidence:
A review of children's files today found no updates since 2/18 and 2/17 for two children in care.

Plan of Correction: This will be done tonight at Back to School night. .

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-A
Description: Based on a review of medications available today, there was were two medications for a child which did not have an authorization accessible
Evidence:
The AuviQ and antihistamine for Child # 3 were present, but the authorization for administering the medications was not accessible today.!

Plan of Correction: We will contact the parent to have a copy of the authorization.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-F
Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, there was a nonprescription medication present today which did not have the original container with the direction label attached.
Evidence:
There were several blisterpacks of an allergy medication present for Child # 3,, but no container with label as required.

Plan of Correction: The parent will be contacted today.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-N
Description: Based on a review of medications and topical meds today, there were two items for one child which were present but no longer in use.
Evidence:
There were sunblock and insect repellent no longer in use for Child # 3 that was not sent home at the end of school.

Plan of Correction: We will send them home today.
