An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. There were 29 children in care, with a total of 6 staff members assigned to their direct supervision. Children's records, staff records, staff training, background checks, the physical plant, administrative documents, children's nutrition, classroom programming, and staff:child interactions were inspected today. It was reported to the Inspector that no children's medications were on site today.
The children were observed creating art projects, singing songs, eating lunch, engaging in creative classroom activities, and attending a fire firefighter presentation for fire prevention month.
The children were served dirty rice with beef and/or vegetables, quinoa, apple close slaw, mixed fruit, and milk for lunch today.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-80-A Description: Based on a review of administrative documents, it was determined that one class has not kept a written record of children in attendance each day.
Evidence:
In the Caterpillar class, the written record of children in attendance was not completed for today or for yesterday.Plan of Correction: All staff will be reminded and re-trained on the policy that the attendance must be completed each day.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-240-A Description: Based on a review of new staff records, it was determined that one staff person did not complete all required components of First Day Orientation Training.
Evidence:
Staff A began employment on 5/28/19. This person has not completed the required Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect Training.Plan of Correction: She completed the 10 hour Preservice training. Part of that training includes information on recognizing and reporting child abuse and neglect. I will make sure she also completes the full and correct training course.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observations, it was determined that in two classrooms the key used to lock the cabinet containing potentially hazardous substances was not stored in a manner to keep it inaccessible to the children.
Evidence:
In the Dragonflies and Bumblebees classrooms, the classroom cleaning products were stored inside locked cabinets. However, the key to these cabinets was hanging inside the lock.Plan of Correction: The keys were immediately removed during the inspection. All staff will be reminded that the keys must be put away and kept inaccessible to the children.
