22VAC40-185 STAFFING AND SUPERVISION.

The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced complaint inspection in response to a complaint that was received by the licensing office on. Interviews were conducted with staff, and documentation reviewed, relating to allegations of non-compliant ratios. The evidence gathered during the investigation supports allegations, so the complaint is determined to be valid. Please contact me if you need further assistance. Thank you.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-E-2 Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on review of electronic documents and discussions with staff the facility failed to maintain compliance with this standard as required related to ratios.
Evidence:
On 9/11/2019 there were 13 toddlers (16mths-2yrs) in care with 2 staff from approximately 10:15 am-3:00 pm. During this time, both toddler classes were combined. The required ratio for this age grouping was 1 staff to 5 children.
On 9/12/2019 there were 9 toddlers in care with 1 staff from approximately 7:45 am-8 am; then from 8 am-11 am there were 12 toddlers in care with 1 staff. The required ratio was 1 staff to 5 children. When interviewed staff stated, and documentation verified, that 3 staff were out on both days.Plan of Correction: Administration sent any available substitutes on both days. Administration is aware of and working towards hiring more staff and substitutes to ensure that ratios are maintained daily as required.

The required ratio was 1 staff to 8 children. When interviewed staff stated, and documentation verified, that 3 staff were out.Plan of Correction: Administration sent any available substitutes on both days. Administration is aware of and working towards hiring more staff and substitutes to ensure that ratios are maintained daily as required.

On 9/12/2019 there were 22 preschool children (3y-5y) in care with 2 staff from approximately 7:45 am-8 am; then from 8 am-11 am there were 32 preschool children in care with 2 staff. The required ratio was 1 staff to 10 children. When interviewed staff stated, and documentation verified, that 3 staff were out.Plan of Correction: Administration sent any available substitutes on both days. Administration is aware of and working towards hiring more staff and substitutes to ensure that ratios are maintained daily as required.
