Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on November 13, 2019 with center staff. There were four infants with two staff and 19 preschool children with two staff, and 5 school age children with one staff. The children were waking from rest, having afternoon snack, arriving from school, and playing on the computer. Snack served today: cookies and juice. Two medications for two children were reviewed. Five children's files and one staff file were reviewed - please see Supplemental Summary for details. The last health inspection was conducted 5/23/2019. The last fire inspection was conducted 5/23/2019. Evacuation drills have been conducted monthly; the last shelter in place drill was conducted 8/15/2019. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C
Description: Based on a review of two medications, the center did not follow the medication policy to send home or destroy outdated medication. Evidence: The emergency medication for Child A expired 9/30/2019 and had not been returned to the parent.

Plan of Correction: Center staff will return the expired medication to the parent and will request a current one if needed.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-D
Description: Based on review of two medications, the facility failed to have a written authorization from the parent for the facility to administer the medication. Evidence: the medication for Child B did not have written authorization from the parent or physician.

Plan of Correction: An authorization will be obtained or the medication will be returned to the parent.
