Technical Assistance:
Discussed with the director the timing of the lockdown drill.

Comments:
An unannounced Subsidy Health and Safety Inspection (SHSI) was conducted today from 12:45pm to 3:45pm in conjunction with a monitoring inspection (see that inspection report for details). The two inspections combined cover all subsidy health and safety requirements. Only subsidy requirements that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection. Five staff records were reviewed for documentation of the mandatory Virginia Preservice Training and current certification in First Aid and CPR and were in compliance. There are no children currently enrolled with diagnosed food allergies but the Director is aware of the need for allergy care plans when children have allergies. The last lockdown drill was documented on 1/4/18. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Laura Brindle, at laura.brindle@dss.virginia.gov or 540-905-2062.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-665-510-B
Description: Based on observation and interview with staff, the center did not maintain a written hard copy record of daily attendance that documents the arrival and departure of each child in care as it occurs. Evidence: In the Infant B class, the attendance record had documentation of nine children in care, but there were only eight children in care. In the Toddlers class, the attendance record had documentation of four children in care, but there were five children in care.

Plan of Correction: I spoke with the teachers about the importance of keeping the attendance updated today and moving forward.
