The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection from 9:50 am - 1:15 pm. There were twenty three children in care: seven 2 and 3 years old with two staff, ten 3 and 4 years old with two staff and six 4 and 5 years old with one staff. The children were observed at circle time, making Christmas crafts, listening to a story and during lunch. Compliance for standard 330-B could not be determined today because of snow and frozen ground. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, the center failed to have all hazardous substances stored in a locked place.
Evidence:
1. The inspector observed the kitchen. The cabinet that stores the cleaning supplies (bleach, all purpose cleaner, Soft Scrub, Lysol) was not locked. The cabinet is a wall cabinet and inaccessible to the children, but the lock on the cabinet was not closed.Plan of Correction: The cabinet was locked during the inspection and will be monitored to ensure it remains locked.
Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-C-2 Description: Based on record reviews, the center failed to obtain a search of the central registry check within 30 days of employment.
Evidence:
1. The inspector reviewed five staff's records. One of five records reviewed (staff record #1) did not contain a search of the central registry and staff has been employed since 11/06/2019.Plan of Correction: The director has submitted the request for a search of central registry but to date has not received the findings. The director contacted the Office of Background Investigations (OBI) during the inspection and they said the request had not been received. The director will have the staff complete a new request today and will send a copy of the request to the licensing office. Once the results are obtained, a copy will be sent to the licensing office.
