Technical Assistance:
Discussed with the Director the timing of the lockdown drill.

Comments:
An unannounced Subsidy Health and Safety Inspection (SHSI) was conducted today from 9:35am to 2:00pm in conjunction with a monitoring inspection (see that inspection report for details). The two inspections combined cover all subsidy health and safety requirements. Only subsidy requirements that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection. Five staff records were reviewed for documentation of the mandatory Virginia Preservice Training and current certification in First Aid and CPR and were in compliance. There are children currently enrolled with diagnosed food allergies and their records were reviewed for allergy care plans. The last lockdown drill was documented on 12/7/18. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Laura Brindle, at laura.brindle@dss.virginia.gov or 540-905-2062.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-665-510-B
Description: Based on observation and interview with staff, the center did not maintain a written hard copy record of daily attendance that documents the arrival and departure of each child in care as it occurs. Evidence: In the Infant classroom the attendance had documentation of six children in care, however, there were nine children in care at that time.

Plan of Correction: I went and spoke with the staff and reminded them of the importance of keeping the attendance current.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-520-B-11
Description: Based on review of documentation and interview with the director, the center did not obtain a written allergy care plan for each child with a diagnosed food allergy, to include instructions from a physician regarding the food to which the child is allergic and steps to be taken in the event of a suspected or confirmed allergic reaction. Evidence: Child A, with a diagnosed allergy to eggs and pineapple, did not have a written allergy care plan in their record.

Plan of Correction: I called the mother during the inspection and she stated that the child is no longer allergic to those things. She will get a note from the doctor faxed over as soon as possible.
