Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 10:40am through 1:00pm. There were 48 children in care ages three months through five years old with ten teachers, and the program director. Children and staff records were reviewed. A walking of the building inside and outside was completed. Required postings, annual inspections, emergency evacuation drills, first aid kit and medication were reviewed. Children were observed in teacher and self-directed activities including restroom routines, hand washing, lunch, and learning and play activities and nap. Violations regarding physical plant and nutrition and meals were identified and discussed with the program director at the conclusion of the inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that areas and equipment are maintained is safe condition.
Evidence:
1 - There are four dangling electrical cords in the preschool room where 15, four and five year old children were in care.
a. The cords are within reach of children and pose an entanglement hazard.
2 - Staff 3 confirmed that the cords were within reach of children.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: 1 - There is a gallon container of laundry detergent sitting on the floor in the bathroom between the infant and toddler care rooms.
a. The doors leading to the bathroom do not have child proof latches or locks on them.
b. There were mobile children present in each room during the inspection.
c. The label on the detergent read "keep out of reach of children, if gets in eyes flush thoroughly, if swallowed drink plenty of water."
2 - Staff 4 confirmed that the bottle of laundry detergent was sitting in the floor of the bathroom between the infant and toddler classrooms.
