Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 7:30am-8:30am. At the beginning of the inspection there were 29 children directly supervised by 4 staff. The physical plant, 5 staff training records, 5 children?s records, 6 medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Staff qualifications, and background checks are inspected bi annually off site and were not reviewed today. Children were observed reading, coloring, making ornaments out of applesauce and cinnamon, and transitioning to the indoor gym. Staff were observed actively engaging with children during their activities and greeting children and parents as they arrived for the morning program. There was an assortment of age appropriate materials for the children in care. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C
Description: Based on a review of medication, the center did not have functional procedures in place to Include methods to prevent use of outdated medication.
Evidence:
On the date of inspection the center had emergency medication present for Child 5 which listed expiration date was 10/2019.

Plan of Correction: We will follow up with the child's parents to obtain a medication that is not expired.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D
Description: Based on record review and staff statement, the center did not practice evacuation drills monthly.
Evidence:
There was not a record that evacuation drills were practiced in October and November of 2019 One staff member questioned did not recall a drill being practiced during the month of November.

Plan of Correction: We will resume practicing monthly evacuation drills.
