- Technical Assistance:
A review of all center's policies and procedures for staff that are assigned permanently or temporarily is imperative to ensure that all policies are followed effectively.
An unannounced Monitoring inspection was conducted this date. A total of 32 children and 3 staff were present when the Inspector arrived. Upon arrival,the children were split into two groups. The younger group were observed with one staff completing an activity in the hallway. The older group of children were observed in the cafeteria completing homework. Some children arrived later in the program from after school clubs. A shelter in place drill was performed. Attendance records and children's files and medications/first aid kit was with staff as they transitioned the children out of the cafeteria. As mentioned, a refresher training on this procedure is needed. Children were observed in small groups drawing, playing with shaving cream and reading. A total of 5 children's records, staff MAT, CPR and First Aid training and Daily Health training was verified. Staff files are reviewed on an annual basis in the administrative office, Annual training and staff background checks are reviewed at that time. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-40-E Description: Based on observation and staff statements, staff failed to follow their own policies and procedures.
1. Staff conducted a shelter in place drill during the licensing inspection. Staff lead the children down a different hallway from the designated shelter in place location indicated on the posted emergency map.
2. Staff were observed disagreeing regarding the location of the shelter in place location.
Plan of Correction: We will in service all staff at this location regarding proper procedures and locations of all emergency situations.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J Description: Based on review of medication, one medication was not locked.
One medication was found in the outside pocket of the emergency bag. This medication was found in a sandwich baggie and unlocked. The backpack was found on a table located in the program area accessible to children in care.
Plan of Correction: We will place this medication in a locked medication bag.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-N Description: Based on observation, children were walking around while eating.
Evidence: Two children were observed eating apples while walking towards the trashcan. Child must remain seated until they are finished eating.
Plan of Correction: We will remind the children that all eating and drinking needs to be completed before getting up from the table.
