Technical Assistance:
Discussion was held on the topics of current enrollment, current staffing, and crib sheets. Discussion of replacing those sheets that may have shrunk. Additional discussion with regards to annual training being supplied by qualified instructors. A website was given www.earlychildhoodwebinars.com as a suggestion to help with obtaining more training hours.

Comments:
The following inspection took place between the hours of 7:30 am through 11 am. Today, I met with the Staff of Spring Hill Academy located in Alexandria, Virginia. At the start of this unannounced monitoring inspection there were a total of 38 children observed with 10 classroom staff; good ratios in all 8 rooms. A total of 5 children?s files and 6 staff files were reviewed. The children were engaged in the following: story time, morning snack, diapering, hand washing, toy play, infant sleeping, infant feeding, drop off for school, learning about ocean animals, and other organized activities. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-130-B
Description: Based on review, 1 of 5 children files indicated that the center did not obtain documentation of additional immunizations once every six months for children under the age of two years.

Evidence -
1. On the date of inspection (02/10/2020), the current Immunization Page on file for Child #4 was dated 02/12/2019.
2. Based on the information on file, Child #4 on the date of inspection was under the age of two years.

Plan of Correction: The parent of Child #4 shall be contacted and an updated immunization page shall be obtained and placed on file.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-140-A
Description: Based on review, 1 of 5 children files indicated that each child did not have a physical examination (by or under the direction of a physician) within one month after attendance.

Evidence -
1. On the date of inspection (02/10/2020), a physical examination for Child #4 was not available for review.
2. The start date for Child #4 was listed as 08/06/2019. Child #4 was observed on the date of inspection.

Plan of Correction: The parent of Child #4 shall be contacted and documentation of a physical examination shall be obtained and placed on file.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B
Description: Based on observation, a nonabsorbent surface for diapering or changing was not available within one room of the center.

Evidence -
1. On the date of inspection (02/10/2020), within the Infant B classroom, the changing made available for the class was observed with two small holes on its surface. Thus rendering this pad as no longer meeting the nonabsorbent criteria.
2. The pad was not in use at the time of observation.

Plan of Correction: Additional pads have been purchased. One of these extra changing pads shall be taken out of storage and replace the ripped pad in the Infant B classroom.
