Technical Assistance:

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 9:00am to 12:15pm with the Director. There were 43 children in care, ranging from seven months to five years of age, supervised by 12 staff. The children were observed listening to a story, having structured free play in centers, and having circle time. Five children?s records and five staff records were reviewed and were in compliance. All of the center's staff have current certification in CPR and First Aid, as well as Daily Health Observation Training. Two medications and authorization forms were reviewed and the center has 14 staff current in Medication Administration Training (MAT). The attendance and emergency drill log were reviewed and were in compliance. The most recent evacuation drill was documented 2/3/20 and the most recent shelter-in-place was documented 1/6/20. The most recent Fire Inspection on file was dated 10/18/19 and the most recent Health Inspection on file was dated 9/27/19. Lunch today was chicken noodle soup with vegetables, crackers, applesauce, and milk. The new two-year-old classroom was measured for capacity. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Laura Brindle, at laura.brindle@dss.virginia.gov or 540-905-2062.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances, such as cleaning materials, were not kept in a locked place. Evidence: 1. In the Infant class the Licensing Inspector observed a spray bottle labeled "Bleach and water" on an open shelf above the changing table area. 2. In the PreK class the Licensing Inspector observed a spray bottled labeled "Bleach and water" in an unlocked upper cabinet.

Plan of Correction: Both spray bottles were moved to locked cabinets during the inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C
Description: Based on review of two medications, the center did not follow its policies for medication including long term medication authorization and consistency with the manufacturer's instructions for dosage. Evidence: 1. Child A had Children's Benadryl on site for a food allergy with the parent's signature for authorization dated 1/8/2020. There was no authorization from the doctor extending this medication authorization for longer than 10 days. 2. The dosage label for the Children's Benadryl stated "Do not use for children under 2". Child A's date of birth is 4/12/2018.

Plan of Correction: We called the parent and faxed her the form during the inspection to be completed by the doctor as soon as possible.
