Comments:
An unannounced full renewal inspection was conducted today. There were 70 children in care, with a total of 12 staff members assigned to their direct supervision. Children's records, administrative records, staff files, staff training, background checks, emergency preparedness items, children's medication forms, classroom programming, and teacher:child interactions were inspected today.

The children were observed making Valentine gifts, enjoying dinosaur marching, playing outside, and engaging in classroom Montessori activities.

This inspection was completed between approximately 10:20am and 12:00pm. Thank you for meeting with me today. If you have any questions regarding this inspection please email me at sandra.dimperio@dss.virginia.gov

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-60-A
Description: Based on a review of enrolled children's records, it was determined that four records do not contain all required information.
Evidence:
Child records B, C, D, and E do not include each parent's work place contact information.

Plan of Correction: Each parent will be asked for the information.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-80-A
Description: Based on a review of administrative records, it was determined that one classroom has not completed their written record of attendance.
Evidence:
The record of attendance for Room 1 was not accurately completed for today. The attendance indicated a total of 18 children in care; however, only 17 children were present and in care.

Plan of Correction: We were using the class attendance ipad in the office for assessments. The attendance was corrected during the inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that two areas of the school have not been maintained in a safe condition.
Evidence:
1 - The building heat is no longer working in Room 2. It was reported to the Inspector that the heat in that classroom has not been working "all week." Three portable electric heaters have been installed in the classroom and have been placed on the floor where children have access to them. The Inspector touched the front of each heater and determined that they are very hot to the touch, posing a safety hazard for the children.
2 - In Room 5, there is an area rug on the floor in front of the children's cubbies. This rug has buckled in various areas and is now protruding up from the floor. The buckling of the rug poses a tripping hazard for the children.

Plan of Correction: 1 - The heaters will be turned off and removed from that classroom before children return to the room. Immediately during the inspection I contacted our sister school to borrow their heaters that do not get hot to the touch. We will begin using those heaters today. Prior to this inspection I had already requested a repair to the heating system in that classroom. The repair is scheduled for Monday. We will only use the safe heaters that do not get hot to the touch until the heat is repaired.
2 - The rug will be removed.
